Transporting the CIA A-12 Blackbird: " . . . From the beginning of Project OXCART, it was known that the A-12s would be built in the SkunkWorks within the Lockheed Plant complex in Burbank, California and that the A-12s would have to be transported overland to Area 51 for flight testing, development and training of the Project Pilots. Long before the first A-12 airplane was ready for transport, the full scale model was built and had to be taken to the Area for installation on the radar range for studies of its radar cross section. The carriages that contained the model were smaller but all of these were oversize requiring a special travel permit. This trip to haul the full scale model was started in November 1959 and took three days to complete. The largest of these packages was 65' long and 32.6' wide. . . . " (read more at link above)

Social Media Pose Riddle for CIA - WSJ.com: "The agency's social-media guidelines, described by the former official, allow even undercover officers to maintain Facebook accounts under their real names. "The rules had to catch up with the technology," the former official said. But there are limits. While officers can't post details of their work projects or travel, they may post personal notes on travel and photos, according to the ex-official. Officers were encouraged to use discretion to avoid compromising their agency status. Facebook friendships between undercover officers and people openly working for the CIA were discouraged, according to the former official. Among other things, such connections could be used to identify undercover agents, through link analysis. When the policy was issued, it led to a quandary for CIA officers, the ex-official said: Whether to defriend undercover officers. Doing so en masse could have had an unintended effect of alerting others to an undercover officer's status." (read more at link above)

Afghan Leader Confirms Cash Deliveries by C.I.A. - NYTimes.com: "President Hamid Karzai acknowledged Monday that the Central Intelligence Agency has been dropping off bags of cash at his office for a decade, saying the money was used for “various purposes” and expressing gratitude to the United States for making the payments."Mr. Karzai described the sums delivered by the C.I.A. as a “small amount,” though he offered few other details. But former and current advisers of the Afghan leader have said the C.I.A. cash deliveries have totaled tens of millions of dollars over the past decade and have been used to pay off warlords, lawmakers and others whose support the Afghan leader depends upon. The payments are not universally supported in the United States government. American diplomats and soldiers expressed dismay on Monday about the C.I.A.’s cash deliveries, which some said fueled corruption. They spoke privately because the C.I.A. effort is classified. Others were not so restrained. “We’ve all suspected it,” said Representative Jason Chaffetz, Republican of Utah and a critic of the war effort in Afghanistan. “But for President Karzai to admit it out loud brings us into a bizarro world.” . . ."

BENGHAZI: Whistleblower witnesses threatened by CIA and State

The lawyers said their clients believe their accounts of Benghazi were spurned by the Accountability Review board (ARB), the official investigative body convened by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to review the terrorist attacks, and that the two employees have faced threats and intimidation from as-yet-unnamed superiors. “I'm not talking generally, I'm talking specifically about Benghazi -- that people have been threatened,” Toensing told Fox News on Wednesday. “And not just the State Department; people have been threatened at the CIA. ... Benghazi - Obama administration mislead the public
This is what happens when you put political expediency above the national interests--
The Benghazi Talking Points | The Weekly Standard: " . . . The exchange of emails is laid out in a 43-page report from the chairmen of five committees in the House of Representatives. . . . it is clear that senior administration officials engaged in a wholesale rewriting of intelligence assessments about Benghazi in order to mislead the public. The Weekly Standard sought comment from officials at the White House, the State Department, and the CIA, but received none by press time. Within hours of the initial attack on the U.S. facility, the State Department Operations Center sent out two alerts. The first, at 4:05 p.m. (all times are Eastern Daylight Time), indicated that the compound was under attack; the second, at 6:08 p.m., indicated that Ansar al Sharia, an al Qaeda-linked terrorist group operating in Libya, had claimed credit for the attack. According to the House report, these alerts were circulated widely inside the government, including at the highest levels. The fighting in Benghazi continued for another several hours, so top Obama administration officials were told even as the fighting was taking place that U.S. diplomats and intelligence operatives were likely being attacked by al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists. A cable sent the following day, September 12, by the CIA station chief in Libya, reported that eyewitnesses confirmed the participation of Islamic militants and made clear that U.S. facilities in Benghazi had come under terrorist attack. It was this fact, along with several others, that top Obama officials would work so hard to obscure. . . ."

Benghazi E-Mails Put White House on the Defensive - NYTimes.com: "The disclosures about how extensively the talking points were revised also reveal the divisions that often exist among intelligence agencies, as well as the bureaucratic infighting that often lies behind the bland language in official government statements. In this case, the State Department bridled at the C.I.A.’s initial draft, both because it went further than what the department had been disclosing publicly and because it was apparently worried that C.I.A. warnings about other potential threats would reflect badly on the department. . . . State Department’s spokeswoman, Victoria Nuland, raised concerns with the White House and the intelligence agencies, saying the information could be “abused” by members of Congress “to beat up the State Department for not paying attention to warnings, so why would we want to feed that either?” C.I.A. officials responded with a new draft, but Ms. Nuland replied that the changes did not “resolve all my issues or those of my building leadership.” . . . She also believed that the C.I.A., which had more than 20 people in Benghazi on the night of the attack, was trying to absolve itself at the State Department’s expense . . ." Afghan Leader Confirms Cash Deliveries by C.I.A. - NYTimes.com: "The C.I.A. payments open a window to an element of the war that has often gone unnoticed: the agency’s use of cash to clandestinely buy the loyalty of Afghans. The agency paid powerful warlords to fight against the Taliban during the 2001 invasion. It then continued paying Afghans to keep battling the Taliban and help track down the remnants of Al Qaeda. Mr. Karzai’s brother Ahmed Wali, who was assassinated in 2011, was among those paid by the agency, for instance."
